FYI. I ordered 5 pizzas. We will need to bring our own drinks and snacks.

Hi teams,
Since I want to get this email ASAP, you will get 2 emails from me today L I discussed with Colleen about tomorrow’s weather. The short answer: We currently do not anticipate postponing the event but will keep a watchful eye on the weather forecast. This is what Colleen sent out to the other teams going to WPI tomorrow to their championship.
“Weather update: We will continue to keep a watchful eye on the weather forecast (via weather.gov) but currently do not anticipate postponing the event. It currently looks like (in the Worcester area) there should only be about an inch of snow before 7AM, with another 3 or so inches falling between 7AM and 1PM, followed by rain. The temperature is on a steady rise throughout the day so we don’t anticipate departure weather to be an issue. Those traveling from Western MA will have more snow to contend with on the ride to WPI.

No matter what, doors will still open at 7:15A. If necessary, we may delay the start of matches/judging to allow adequate travel time for teams. We have some cushion at the end of the day to allow for a delay and still end at the anticipated time.
As always, travel with caution and make smart decisions about you and your team’s safety. If you, some of your team members, or school do not think it’s ok for your team to travel, please respect that. Teams will not be penalized if members do not come because of weather-related concerns. If your team decides not to attend the event due to weather, contact me via email ASAP and be sure to include your team number!”
We will have the same policy. For Newton, less than an inch of snow is forecasted tonight and then on Saturday snow and sleet before 2pm and then a chance of freezing rain between 2pm and 3pm. High near 37. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow and sleet accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.
Doors open at 7:15. If more than 20% of the teams are missing but on the road at 8:45, we may delay the start of matches/judging to allow adequate travel time for teams. If you’re team is late and they miss matches or judging sessions, they will still be considered for all of the other awards except Champion’s. Champion’s award requires the team to be judged in project, robot design and core values plus score in the top 40% of robot performance. Only one (good) match is needed for robot performance. Everyone has at least one match after lunch. There are 20 other awards that you can win even if you miss a judging session!
So, if you’re late, please don’t stress about it. There are still awards to win. It’s a fun day. We hope you can come but we respect your decision if you decline.
Thank you,
Pam
