Today we visited the North Attleboro Fish Hatchery along with our sister team, the Hippogriffs. Kerstin Cody, a fish biologist and technician, gave us a tour of the hatchery and explained what the hatchery does to raise fish and release them into the wild. She also mentioned several problems that the hatchery had:
- Fish poop and other debris often gathered on the bottom of the fish pools, which are hard to clean.
- The feeder on the shad tank didn't work properly because it dropped food from too high a height, causing the food to sink and be out of the reach of the shad.
- Some of the deepwater fish had trouble adjusting to the hatchery because the shades on top of the pools didn't block enough sunlight.
